IL SURF A CHICAMA

Peru', Chicama

SPOTS CHICAMA AREA

Chicama

Chicama is known as the longest wave in the world. The whole spot is two and a half miles long and subdivided into three sections: the first far outside is called Malpaso, which breaks for about 150 meters. The next to the city is called Keys, which breaks for another 600 meters before ending in deep waters and the main section, which is called Main Point. When the waves are more than six feet, the Main point connects to the El Hombre section, where the waves break through to the dock in the city - a 2.5km ride that lasts for minutes.

Pacasmayo

North of Chicama, this is a very long left pointbreak in peru (the pont itself is about 4km long, but the best waves at the top of the point usually 'only' go for about 300-400m), and it picks up heaps of swell. It is hollow, fast, and powerful, and breaks for up to 500m (or even more if you are lucky), but usually good rides are about 300-400m. Holds some size, up to 12 feet, but the current gets strong. All in all a world class wave, hollow, consistent and fast.

Poemape

North of Chicama, Puemape is an exposed beach and reef break that has very reliable surf. Ideal winds are from the northeast. There is a left breaking reef. Rarely crowded here.

Huanchaco

South of Chicama, Huanchaco is a very long pointbreak over about 500m, that breaks in about 3 different sections. It picks up plenty of swell, meaning it cand be a good choice when Chicama is too small. Good spot for every surf level. Here you can try to surf with the famous Peruvian canoes.
